Creating from dawn to dusk and beyond yields countless new treasures, failures, and everything in between. End products are usually easy to quantify, whether it’s a photo shoot that turned out exactly as planned, or a recipe that is almost, but not quite, ready for the spotlight. But what about the work that doesn’t lead up to one final output? Those are the scraps, the leftovers that get pushed to the back of the fridge where they’re forgotten. Rather than letting them spoil and go to waste, I’m pulling them all out this afternoon to reheat and serve anew!
First up is the main course: I have a number of Vegan a la Mode book signings and samplings coming up! If you’re in the Connecticut area, you won’t want to miss the chance to taste a few featured flavors. Even if you already have the book or don’t even want a copy, stop by for a taste, ask a few questions, and learn about methods for making ice cream without a machine. Those events are as follows…
July 31st: 4 – 6 pm at Health in a Hurry. 1891 Post Rd, Fairfield CT.
August 11th: Noon – 2 pm at Thyme & Season. 3040 Whitney Ave, Hamden CT.
August 18th: Noon – 3 pm at Fairfield University Bookstore. 1499 Post Rd, Fairfield CT
For the next morsel on the plate, I’ve entered my Pomegranate Ice Cream Pops into Ethical Ocean’s vegan recipe contest! Please vote for me, early and often, because you can log your choice up to once per day. The more often you vote, the better your chances of winning a fabulous prize for yourself, too.
Finally, as the gravy over the top, this summer semester’s required class has forced me to face my photographic nemesis: People. Yes, I have little experience actually shooting portraits of my fellow wo/man in any serious manner, so it’s been a learning experience, to say the least. I’ve been sharing some of my favorite shots through twitter, but you can also check in with the photo set I’ve been feeding on Flickr.
There, now that wasn’t so bad, was it? With the icebox cleared out and ready to accept more leftovers, we return you to your regularly scheduled diet of fresh foods and new posts.
I just bought Vegan A La Mode (kindle) and now I’m waiting for my new ice cream maker to arrive in the mail! Can’t wait!
Awesome, I’m so happy to hear it! Hope you love both the book and the ice cream maker! Please don’t hesitate to drop me a line if you have any questions about the recipes. :)
Thanks Hannah! That’s so sweet of you!
If I only lived in Connecticut… Going over to vote for the super yummy looking ice cream pop. :-)
how exciting! your book looks fabulous!
Your pomegranate pops look great, but I don’t think I’ll be voting in this contest. Ethical Ocean looks like it might be a very interesting site but I don’t like that they want me to register or log in with Facebook (which has a terrible privacy history) to look at anything. I don’t begrudge you this great opportunity for visibility and your career, I am just a voice against the required exchange of personal information for the privilege to interact with a company’s website.
Congratulations and best of luck my talented friend :D
If there are no restrictions, of course I shall vote for you!
Cheers
Choc Chip Uru
those pomegranate pops are so brilliantly beautiful! I just got your book for review and you know who stole it from me. hubbs.. he has it on his bedside to drool over the pictures for the next few days, so he can list a bunch for me to make. he loves the book design and keeps asking me if i am sure you wrote it(I showed him your picture;))
ooh people are so different than food. hope you are having fun clicking away!
I love that picture of the sushi chef! Everything about it (colors, layout) is very attractive. See, you CAN shoot good people pictures! :)
I just got Vegan A La Mode to review! Can’t wait to delve into it!
Yay!! I think I might even be more excited than you at that news- Although I hope you’re pretty jazzed about it, too. :)
*frantically rummages around vague itinerary to sort out how far CT is from Utah…*
Alas, it seems far.
Oh Hannah…too bad I do not live in the area…your book looks awesome!
Have fun and enjoy your week :)
it’s a pity I’m not living in CT…all the best in your book launch! that pomegranate ice cream pop looks awesome..that picture literally pops out of the page.
Chocolate covered ice cream pops? Wow! I need those in my life!
Hannah, your photos are so beautiful! I don’t even need to taste the treats to feel cool. Best wishes with your signings!
I so wish I were going to be in the CT area!
Wow, do those pomegranate pops look good — I just voted and will try to remember to vote every day!
I think I feel a new book winging its way onto my rapidly approaching birthday list… I wasn’t able to get “The permaculture book of ferment and human nutrition” from my go to book shop in the U.K. (Book Depository…you sorely tried my patience on that one!) but they had best be able to get me this baby or they are OUT! Love it… want it … WILL have it! :)
The fact that you would consider dumping a bookstore for not carrying my cookbook is perhaps the biggest compliment one could pay. As a little birthday present, I’d love to send you a signed bookplate, at least! I know that everyone can’t make it to the book signings, but those little stickers can certainly travel. Just send me your address and I’ll get it in the mail asap! (hannah @ mysweetvegan . com)
That would be AMAZING hanah! Thank you so much, it will make every time that I use this book something special (and I WILL use it a lot :)). Steve is going to have to make me a special bookshelf for my cookbooks now and you will read about your book being numero uno on my shelf in the blog :)
VOTED! :) Your creations never cease to amaze me and I can’t wait to see more of the photos.
Aww, thank you so much, Liz! I’m so grateful for your support- and kindness! :)
