Granted, I didn't get to see 1/10000 of the National Restaurant Association Show, but there was a clear winner that I came across in my brief exploration of the floor. Unfished by @verdinofoods.uk is a game-changer, folx. We're talking REAL plant-based sashimi-quality salmon and tuna. There is nothing like it on the market right now, and for this former fish-eater and -lover, it's everything I've been craving for the past 20 years. I'm just crossing fingers and toes that it will appear in grocery stores nationwide ASAP.
Before any trip, I go through a simple routine. After packing, I'll clean the house so I'm not greeted with a chaotic mess upon my return, but more importantly, I'll cook down all the fresh produce in the fridge. Pickle, dry, cure, or freeze to ensure nothing spoils in my absence. A nice bonus is that it means my meals are taken care of for a day or two after I get back, while I try to catch up at home again.
To anyone who feels intimidated by the idea of cooking for "food people," whether they're chefs, gourmands, or what have you, look: I mean, don't look too closely because it's an awful photo, but this pizza was easily my favorite meal I grabbed while in San Francisco this round. My good friend made for me with a @vicolo.pizza crust, @costco marinara sauce, @miyokoscreamery liquid mozz, and @beyondmeat sausage. It absolutely SLAPPED, okay? Not just saying that because she made it for me and I'm so deeply grateful for the gesture and kindness alone, but it was just damned good! It doesn't take much. Good food is universal, and it doesn't have to be fancy, complicated, or expensive. Just feed me and I'm yours. Thank you, friend. 💖
We're out here shiitake talking on this last day of the National Restaurant Association Show! It's been a trip, literally and figuratively. If you missed it, don't worry; I already have much more planned coming up soon... Stay tuned!
