Proving without a shadow of a doubt that simply downsizing everyday items makes them instantly adorable, Anna Hrachovec has created an overnight sensation with her ongoing series of tiny objects. Ranging from animals to edibles to computer equipment, you name it and there’s a good chance that Anna has a yarn-and-fiberfill replica that could fit in the palm of you hand. After slowly doling out a few tiny patterns in irresistible sets for the past year or so, her latest book, Teeny-Tiny MochiMochi: More Than 40 Itty-Bitty Minis to Knit, Wear, and Give has finally been unleashed upon the world, bundling together scores of quick, cute knits.

For any knitter that has been disappointed by the crocheted amigurumi craze, unable to create such adorable stuffed toys, this is the book for you! Containing such a wide variety of items that there’s bound to be something that everyone will love, one of my favorite aspects of these mini knits is how quick they are to make. Small size means small time commitment, so you can churn these cuties out in no time– A particularly useful fact if you’re stuck for last-minute gifts.

As one of Anna’s devoted test-knitters, I can’t claim an unbiased opinion here, but I can tell you that I would have purchased this compilation of cuteness anyway. I mean honestly, how could you resist patterns for…

…A tiny cupcake, complete with rainbow seed bead sprinkles?

How about a plump, green pear, almost realistic enough to imagine out in the orchards?

Don’t forget about the starches; a baked potato topped off with beaded chives and a generous pat of sewn in “butter” would sure hit the spot!

Anna has even managed to create the ever-elusive vegan fried egg! I must admit though, it was a bit fibrous for my tastes.

I did slightly modify my knits to exclude the eyes, but only because this vegan prefers not to have food that can look back at me. Still, the adorable factor hasn’t suffered in the least, if I do say so myself. While the section of tiny foods was clearly my focus, there’s still a whole world of tiny knits to explore far beyond the faux edibles. The miniature lion is next up on my knit list.

    Anna has done so much but I’d like to see a tiny elephant if she hasn’t done that yet.

  15. I’m still in an amigurumi craze. Would love to knit some of those cute little creatures- I bet my niece and nephew would really like them.. I love Anna’s ballet dancer…I’m envisaging making a little village of people and houses and little trees or a beach! with sun loungers for mini swimsuit wearing people and volleyball players!

  35. I’ve loved Anna’s patterns for years. What a nice surprise to see her mentioned on your blog! Some ideas for new tiny knits: ladybug, raccoon, skunk, pig, tea set, Christmas tree, gummy coke bottles (like the candy)…

    If i stick with the food theme the photos above show, I would love to see a tiny knit apple (that’s the upstate New Yorker in me!).
    But a tiny fairy would be cute, too!

  38. oh those are so cute. what size needles does one use? i’m not sure my old eyes could handle work w/ needles and yarn that small but i would sure like to win the book and give it a try. i would like to see a small bunny – though i’m guessing she might of already done that. and i see someone else has already suggested a hedghog – i 2nd that. how about a little skunk?

    1. These patterns tend to call for size 1 US (2.25 mm) double pointed needles, but I’ve also found that if you don’t mind the end results being slightly larger, you can use size 4 or 5 US needles with worsted weight yarn instead.

  41. i have a sneaking suspicion that anna has already created this, but i’d love to see a teeny tiny saguaro cactus! i moved to RI from AZ six years ago, and i would love to be able to sport a cute, knitted cactus pin on my winter coat, to remind me of warm days back home.

  47. There are probably copyright problems with my suggestion, but I would like to see a tiny Raggedy Ann doll. Raggedy Andy, too.

    And I love LOVE the tiny ami’s. I have Anna’s first book and I would love this new one. If I were to wish upon a star, I’d wish for a whole doll house! Wouldn’t it be great to play house with our own little amigurumi objects?

  74. These actually look DELICIOUS! The same thing happens with my mocha frosting, where it appears to separate slightly (I’ve always assumed it was the oils in the espresso separating). But the taste is perfect. I just bought your second book Hannah. Always so impressed, even if I don’t have time to blog these days or read other peoples’ very often!

  76. I’d love to see some tiny Chinese food in a take out box, with maybe some potstickers on the side. The tiny food is so interesting and so hard to capture. I think it shows real design skill to be able to remove the “faces” from the teeny-tinies and still have them be just as cute. Nice knitting!

  82. I would love to see a teeny Dillo. A Dillo is a vegan Twinkie created by Kelly Colabella of Cakewalk Vegan Bakery here in Salt Lake City. I would love to make a bracelet/necklace of chocolate, raspberry and plain Dillos with a cupcake or two. My kids and I have enjoyed Anna’s tiny creations and blog posts for several years and I plan to make her tiny chicken next.

  89. I’d like to see a tiny alpaca/llama! Maybe knit with alpaca yarn? Make a whole herd and then when people ask you where you got your yarn, just point at them. “My alpacas made it for me.” (I have a little obsession over alpacas right now and I don’t think I’ve ever seen one on Anna’s blog)
