The Vegan’s Hundred

News travels pretty fast in the blogosphere, and the latest craze that’s been showing up on food blogs far and wide has been The Omnivore’s Hundred, a list of 100 foods that all omnivores should eat at some point in their lives. Well, I like the idea, but obviously that sort of thing just doesn’t fly with me. Instead, I present to you my revised list, The Vegan’s Hundred instead! Everything here is either naturally free of animal products or can be veganized, and just like the original, these foods vary from the every day to extraordinary, delectable and disgusting. They’re simply all of the things that, in my opinion, any vegan foodie should definitely sink their teeth into at least once.

Your mission, should you choose to accept it:

1) Copy this list into your own blog, including these instructions.
2) Bold all the items you’ve eaten.

  1. Fabulous list, Hannah! I’m a bit surprised at how many I HAVE actually eaten–but there are lots I’m still dying to try (durian, for example!). Can’t wait to give this a go. :)

PS to reiterate what Veggie Girl wrote–which are the ones YOU’VE tried (or have you tried them all??)

  2. I had fun with the list! I’ve just posted mine.

The list made me realize some things I am also dying to try – like veganizing some mochi, and going to New York (to try Candle 79 being one of the many, many reasons).

And I’d never heard of a Stroopwafle until now either.

  3. That’s okay about the sesame noodles Hannah, I thought 3 Tbs was a lot of soy sauce when putting the sauce together and probably should’ve trusted my instincts :) It was still really good, just a menal note for next time for me.

This is a fun list! I’ll put it on my blog soon, there’s a lot I haven’t tried.

  4. I posted mine on my blog. I have to say, there wasn’t much I didn’t know about, but some things I just haven’t had the opportunity to try.

  5. […] food blogger ever and really have been for the entire month of August, I’ll leave you with the Vegan’s Hundred. The Omnivore’s Hundred has been circling the blogosphere and as one in between the two, […]

  6. Heh.. by the time this got to me I didn’t know it was an omni meme turned veg, but I could tell a veg*n had a hand in it! I guess I crossed out haggis and didn’t have to…

  7. This has been really interesting! I have looked through almost everyone else’s lists here.

My list is up but I take exception to the addition of highly processed and packaged foods like soy whipped cream and fake meats (mostly because they come in so much plastic), so I’ve made a “crunchy vegan 100” version of the list, reinstating some items from the original — like rose harissa, OMG! the yum!

  8. I love your list. But scrapple? How awful! : ) I’ve posted the list and added a few of my own. (Before you know it, we’ll have vegan Spam …)

The raspberry photo from the previous post is gorgeous.

  9. Wow! I ate much more of those than I thought…..of course, I am always eager to try more. I can’t wait to check out Candle 79! Thanks for the tip!

  10. Sorry – didn’t realize they are things that can be made vegan – maybe the specific non-Vegan items should say that for idiots like me? :)

You can delete the previous 2 comments by me (I can’t figure out how to).

  11. Taco stands?! Woah.. like the only stands I`ve ever seen are hot dog (which serves up Yves) and ice cream stands. Geez, I think I`m missing out here.
Also.. am I reading this right? You have never had `mac and cheese`? *le gasp* If you don`t mind me recomending, try Roads End Mac and Chreeze.
It will forever change your life.
    Seriously.

  12. Here’s my list.

I’m new to the blogging game, so that’s my second post of all time. I didn’t do too bad though, 81%. Yay!

  13. I just finished doing my post. Phew! I had to look up a lot of those items, but they looked really interesting, so now I will HAVE to try them! There were only a couple I’m not interested in trying such as vegan caviar (never liked it’s original counterpart) and black truffles (I don’t like mushrooms so I don’t think I’d like these either, but who knows!). My post is at http://veganyummerific.blogspot.com/. Thanks for all the great ideas!
