I must admit, I was perpetually falling asleep midday for the whole week following the trip… But it actually wasn’t so bad, all things considered! I do use a light box in the winter to manage my SAD, and I hear that’s supposed to help correct your internal clock, too.

Oh I know, and was waiting for you to chime in here so I’m happy that you didn’t miss a beat. ;) It’s quite nice to feel so wanted! I actually will suggest Australia as a possible future trip… It’s way outside my realm of experience, but I know that at least my sister was there for a few days and loved it, so I can easily convince her to join my team and gang up on the parents. You’ll be the first one to know if there’s a remote possibility at any point, even before the grandparents!

I will admit, the eating situation was a bit rough at times because we spent a lot of time on the move (not knowing where we’d end up or being able to scout out restaurants in advance) or stuck in Christmas markets (where the primary edible was some sort of wurst on a bun) but it’s definitely doable. The farmer’s market was wonderful, and I was able to stock up on tons of fresh fruits and veggies to munch on. A surprising number of people do know excellent English, so in most cases they’ll have an idea of what you want if you ask for specific things- Try to modify existing dishes, like asking for a bean salad but without cheese, etc. Japanese food is a good bet most of the time, where you can find tofu. No, I can’t say you’ll be able to have much traditional German fare as a vegan, but you won’t starve at all. Just pack backup protein bars to be safe!

Whew, thank you, I did kind of badly about such a crazy purchase, and at the last minute, too.

We went because my dad is over in Germany for the time being, so we had him guide us around a bit, and then took him back home with us for the holidays. A good deal for everyone, I think. :)
