Hannah, I totally agree with you…I got a semi professional Canon not long ago and have to admit that my not so complicated old Canon works as well as the new one…but don’t tell my husband :-) What a really need is to learn how to use it properly ;-)

I’ve had both Nikon and Canon, you really can’t go wrong with either one. And I use both a point and shoot and a dSLR. I use the P+S for traveling since I don’t want to lug around the dSLR everywhere I go. :-)

It always makes me so sad when people say they hate their P+S because I shot using one for two years on my blog and, once I figured out how to use it to it’s fullest potential, the pictures really were good! I’m actually really glad that I mastered my point and shoot before getting a dSLR and I think that’s really the way to go!

A decent DSLR, and a great lens. And even not with that, just take tons of photos. Nikon or Cannon. I’m a Nikon person, but part of that is because I have lots of money in lenses, and so I’m not going to change any time soon, and I feel no need too. But Canon’s are great cameras also.

I’m a Nikon girl at heart :) I’m in the market to replace my 5-year-old DSLR with new technology and I’m tempted to invest in a 60mm as well. You’re right — it’s the lenses that are more of an investment than the camera body. It’s an expensive hobby!

I’m with you on the Canon vs. Nikon decision. I’ve owned so many of their cameras over the years (from film SLR, to point & shoot digital, to my current dSLR). I’m fairly good with my camera, but still have so much to learn! I’m curious to learn more about the macro lens, I have the lens that came with my camera and one telephoto right now. Just getting into food photography and learning as I go. :)

I agree! I used two differnt point and shoots for my blog before I got a used and in fact very old DSLR camera. It’s not the technology which is most important, it’s the process of learning how to use light, composition and everything else.
